Win at Poker: Understanding your Opponent

Poker is about making sure that your cards are better than your opponent’s. Of course, this is easier said than done. However, you won’t need to be a mind reader to get an effective approximation of your opponent’s cards. Instead, you just have to pay close attention to the different factors that may give you a clue as to what it is.

Needless to say, you have to approach this methodically. You will need to take his position into consideration as well as the possible hands he might be opening with. In addition to this, you should also pay close attention to your opponent’s action after the flop as this can help you figure out what he is holding.

Of course, player behaviour like betting and checking can also give you an idea of how strong their hand is. The time a player takes to size you up often reveals vital information about their overall strategy. For instance, more often than not, checking with haste is a clear indicator of a weak hand.

Like with anything else, poker mastery takes time and effort. Stay patient and you’d have no trouble figuring it out.
